A personal data breach (also known as a data protection incident) is a security incident that results in the accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure of, or access to, personal data. Such incidents must be documented and, under certain circumstances, reported to the data subjects and the supervisory authority.
